We are a group of children aged 4-18 years old.
For the past 5 years, together with our parents, we have been involved in voluntary activities, both of fundraising nature through the organisation of charity events and of community service to those who need our help.
Our slogan is “small in size BUT big at heart”.
Our Association started with a group of 20 children from 5 different schools in Nicosia and Pafos and today numbers over 1200 children from elementary and high schools all over Cyprus.
We offer joy and happiness to those who are less fortunate than us.
Apart from serving those around us, the Young Volunteers aim to:
- Involve children in volunteering activities from an early age,
- Become sensitive to the problems and misfortunes of others,
- Encourage children to vision a brighter future for all,
- Develop their personal talents and leadership skills,
- Create and encourage team spirit and self-esteem,
- Strengthen family ties and create lifelong friendships.
WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED
In the five years of our existence we have raised over 200.000 pounds and proudly offered donations to charitable and other organised associations related to children as well as individuals and families with sick and poor children. Charities that have received donations include the Cyprus Antileukemia Association, Europa Donna, the Cyprus Anticancer Association, the Alzheimer Patients Association, The school for the blind, to name a few.
HOW WE WORK AND WHERE WE MEET
Our meetings are held once a week and our group leaders set the guidelines for all our projects. Each school team works independently setting their goals and mission for the year. Each team may prepare its own annual program, which is complimentary to that of the Association’s. All programs should be enjoyable, satisfying and fun for everyone involved!
We all work together as a team AND with high spirit and joy we prepare the crafts we have planned in order to complete our special mission. In fact, we have such fun together that we look forward to our next meeting.
Additionally, we run the Young Volunteers choir. With the guidance of our music teacher, this group of children works hard and devotes a lot of their time to prepare for presentation shows.
WHAT WE LOOK FORWARD FOR THE FUTURE
We want our groups to grow and expand so that more children get involved and feel responsible, useful and important.
On the organizational side, our Board – which comprises of parents and group leaders - is in contact with a number of European associations to find possible links of cooperation.
The YOUNG VOLUNTEERS is a registered charity organization
All programmes are approved and supported by the Ministry of Education.
